Mississippi Celebrates June as Family-Friendly Month

This year Mississippi has dubbed the month of June, family-friendly tourism month.  All over the state, you will find activities that are fit for the whole family and showcase the wonderful state of Mississippi.  This is the perfect opportunity to take your kids out and enjoy a new activity!

Named one of the top 50 Children’s Museums, the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center in Gulfport in Gulfport is sure to be a hit.  This hands-on museum displays exhibits that are sure to get your kids thinking outside of the box and learning!

Monday- Saturday: 10am- 5pm

Sunday: Noon- 5pm

Adults & Children over the age of 1 year- $8

Military & Senior (65+) - $6

After 3pm on Weekdays- $3

Everyone on Sunday- $5



The Infinity Science Center is located in Stennis Space Center, MS showcases interactive exhibits, tours of America’s largest rocket engine test complex, motion simulator ride, programs and presentations, and more!  It is located “next door” to the Mississippi Welcome Center near the MS/LA border.  The purchase of your admission ticket includes a free bus tour of the NASA Stennis Space Center also!

The newly opened Children’s Museum in Jackson is sure to bring a smile to any child’s face.  This museum is full of hands-on and engaging exhibits and programs that explore cultural arts, science and technology, literacy, health and nutrition, and Mississippi Heritage.

Located in Tupelo, HealthWorks is human biology health-education center.  If you’ve ever wanted to get inside the brain of a teenage, or explore the coarser side of human biology, then this is the place for you!  All of the exhibits are designed for school children in kindergarten through eighth grade and are aimed to inspire a life-time of healthy habits.

Tupelo 14th Annual Elvis Festival

Tupelo is calling all Elvis Fans!  The 14th annual Elvis Festival will take place on May 31- June 3 and will pay tribute to the King of Rock ‘n Roll. 

Headlining artists scheduled to perform include David Nail, Randy Houser, Little Big Town and many more.  Elvis Tribute Artists Brandon Bennett, Cody Slaughter, and Kevin Mills will also perform.  For the 5th year, there will be a preliminary round of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist competition, which last year brought 38 competitors.   Elvis fans from all over will see who will be chosen to represent Tupelo in Memphis in August.

Other events include a parade, Elvis look-a-like pet parade, Running with the King 5k, Miss Tupelo Elvis Festival Pageant, Fling with the King Disc Golf Tournament, Elvis Movie Poster Exhibit, Sunday Gospel Concert, visits to Elvis’ birthplace, and many activities for children.

9th Annual Tupelo Film Festival

The 9th Annual Tupelo Film Festival will take place May 16- 19, 2012.  A tradition since 2004, this film festival brings together a collection of dozens of films and hundreds of film fans from all over the world.  A combination of film screenings and workshops, this film festival aims to be a centerpiece in the Tupelo Film Commission’s goal of fostering a vibrant film community in the Northeastern part of Mississippi.

There will be awards given to films for the categories of student, short film, documentary, animation, music video and feature.  Judges are film industry leaders and fellow filmmakers from all over the nation.  See the 2011 winners here and get ready for another great year of films!

Ticket admission is $5.00 on the 16th, $15.00/$7.50 for seniors and students on the 17th-19th, $5.00 for after parties on 18th and 19th (if you have not purchased a day pass), $40.00 for an all access pass, and $10.00 for the Saturday workshops.  The festival will take place at The Lyric Theater located at 201 N. Elvis Fans Head to Tupelo MS this Weekend!

Hey Elvis fans! Downtown Tupelo comes alive with activities for Elvis fans far and wide this weekend for the annual Tupelo Elvis Festival! In its 13th year, this weekend boasts tons of entertainment and fun featuring live music Friday and Saturday nights as well as a Sunday afternoon lineup. The weekend includes a parade, 5K run, beauty pageant, carnival, movie poster exhibit, visits to Elvis birthplace (which are free with admission to the event), children’s activities, a gospel concert, tribute artists contest and a bike race. If you are even the slightest bit an Elvis Presley fan, this is the place to be this weekend! There are several new additions to the festival and to the district this year; new shops and restaurants and more activities.
