Vietnam Travelling Memorial Wall Coming to DeSoto County

by VisitMS 2. May 2012 09:37

The Vietnam Travelling Memorial Wall will be coming to DeSoto County May 10-14, 2012.  This monument is three-fifths scale, v-shaped replica wall, 6 feet tall at the center, and just shy of 300 feet long.  The wall pays tribute to more than 58,000 Americans who fell in the Vietnam conflict from 1959-1975 and is a living reminder of the sacrifices made by so many during the Vietnam War.

The wall is open 24 hours and opening ceremonies will be held next Thursday, May 10 from 6pm-7pm.  Parking is free and is located on the corner of Pepperchase and Turman.  On Saturday, May 12 there will be a tribute held inside of the Landers Center from 10am- 11:30am and the closing ceremonies will take place on Sunday, May 13 from 6pm-7pm.

There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer for the event.  If you are interested, contact Gia Matheny for more information at 662-429-1460 or gmatheny@desotocountyms.gov.  Don’t miss this opportunity to remember those who fought for our freedom and take part in a piece of great history.
