Golf Digest Golf Digest magazine has ranked Hattiesburg's Canebrake Golf Club #2 in the Nation, Best New Affordable Public Course with public green fees $50 or less. Visitors to Natchez are enjoying Beau Pre, the full service club that offers a championship 18-hole golf course and numerous special services.

Golf Digest magazine has just ranked Timberton Golf Club, also in Hattiesburg, the ranking of a four 1/2 star golf course! The 27-hole golf course was singled out by the publication as one of North America's 201 best public-access courses. In their definitive new guidebook, Places to Play 2000 - 2001. Golf Digest includes reader ratings of more than 6,000 public-access golf courses across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean.

Outdoor recreation in Mississippi just received a boost with the opening of The Longleaf Trace, a railroad-turned- recreational trail in South Mississippi. The shady asphalt trail winds its way along 41 miles of an abandoned section of Illinois Central Railroad from Hattiesburg to Prentiss. The Armed Forces Museum at Camp Shelby (Hattiesburg). This newly renovated cultural addition preserves memorabilia of our American heritage at the largest state-owned and operated National Guard field training site in the United States, 12 miles south of Hattiesburg on Highway 49. The museum houses an extensive collection of memorabilia from the Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Persian Gulf War. Over 6,100 items are displayed from all branches of the military. The museum also features a library. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.Admission is free. Please call (601) 558-2757 for more information.

The Walnut Street Pharmacy and Ice Cream Parlor (Hattiesburg) is a celebration of the good life. The Pharmacy provides all modern pharmaceutical needs, as well as a one-of-a-kind gift shopping experience. Walnut Circle Grill (Hattiesburg) located at 115 Walnut Street, opened its doors as the first completed building of the Walnut Street Development in Historic Downtown Hattiesburg. Casual fine dining with a Northern Italian flair is artistically complemented by a unique Tuscan design. Housed in a newly renovated historic building, the dining is formal, yet comfortable and casual. 206 Front (Hattiesburg) is a unique new restaurant nestled in the heart of historic downtown Hattiesburg. Housed in a 1920's World War II hotel, the atmosphere is distinct.
