True Small Town Living

If your idea of a good time is staying home and rearranging the sock drawer, then Brandon is not for you. If you like to enjoy everything life has to offer, then you will want to check out this exciting town.

Whether you’re attending the latest production at the Black Rose Theater, enjoying the live music at the 3-day Brandon in the Park event, or spending a warm Fall day boating on the 33,000-acre Ross Barnett Reservoir, you will enjoy the benefits of Brandon’s small town atmosphere just 6 miles east of the state’s capital city and a stone’s throw from the Jackson-Evers International Airport.

Several challenging golf courses are located in Brandon, and with the climate of this central Mississippi town, golf really is a year-round activity here. One of the many perks that makes Brandon an ideal retirement community. A secure, small town atmosphere with the amenities of a big city—without the crowds—Brandon has a lot to offer.

Read about what people like yourself have to say about Brandon as a retirement community:

Jim and Marj Stemen are big fans of Brandon. Here’s what they tell friends and acquaintances about their new hometown.

Mississippi Living: How did you discover Mississippi?

The Stemens: Two main reasons drove our original look at Brandon: it was close to the airport, because I was going to be traveling most of the time, and it was closer to the grandkids.

Mississippi Living: Besides the taxes, what do you enjoy most about Mississippi?

The Stemens: When we first started inquiring about Brandon, we found it was an established, small community. We liked that idea. We both grew up in a small town in Ohio and this one fit us like a glove. From our first day here we tasted the Southern hospitality we all read about. The cost-of-living is good, too. After living in three of the top ten large cities in the U.S., I can speak about costs. Brandon is the place for me.

Mississippi Living: What’s your role in the Brandon community?

The Stemens: We participate in the many recreational and cultural activities Brandon has to offer, along with those at our church and with our neighbors. There is something for everyone if you liked to be involved in community and charity projects, and everyone is so welcoming. We would have to say we are happier here than any place we have lived.
