Mississippi’s Delta Region is a combination of quaint
towns, wide open fields of cotton and the top casino destination between
Las Vegas and Atlantic City. With nine casinos, over 6,300 hotel rooms,
more than 40 restaurants, and three signature golf courses, Tunica, just
30 minutes south of Memphis, has become one of the nation’s hottest golf
destinations.
The exciting, new Tunica National Golf & Tennis Club features first-class
tennis courts, clubhouse with men’s and women’s locker rooms, meeting
rooms, full-service restaurant, pro shop, and an 18-hole golf course.
The four indoor tennis courts are Hydro-Grid clay surfaces - the only
ones east of the Colorado. The Club has hosted both amateur and professional
golf and tennis events.
Golf facilities include a 6-hole par 3 practice course, golf academy with
state-of-the-art video swing analysis, GPS systems on all golf carts,
and a 360- degree driving range with sixteen target greens, five hitting
areas, three pitching and chipping greens, three green-side bunkers and
three fairway bunkers. The 7,210-yard Mark McCumber-designed golf course
is a challenging wind-swept landscape, with rolling terrain and strategically
placed water hazards and bunkers balanced by generous landing areas. The
GPS system provides a bit of comfort for several blind holes.
Grand Casino’s Cottonwoods Golf Club, designed by Champions Tour star
Hale Irwin, has a distinct Scottish feel. Many holes border water, and
bunkers are placed at strategic junctures. The course features Crenshaw
Bentgrass greens, Zoysia fairways, and 3 lakes, which provide a greater
challenge.
Mississippi GolfTunica’s Grand Casino, the largest casino complex in the
country, features four distinct gaming areas, more than 3,000 high-paying
slots, over 100 table games, and a spectacular poker room. Eight unique
restaurants are on the property. Lodging choices include the Casino hotel
and the nearby Terrace and Veranda hotels.
Golfers traveling to Tunica can also enjoy the River Bend Links course.
The course is bordered by the Mississippi River on one side and casinos
on the other. The well-known designer, Clyde Johnston, calls his 6,900-yard
masterpiece “a field of dunes” in the true Scottish tradition with strategically
placed lakes, sand and grass bunkers, and mounds. Rolling Bermuda fairways
run up to Bentgrass greens. With its championship-quality golf courses
and exciting nightlife, time spent in the Mississippi Delta is unforgettable.
