The Capital/River Region is home to Jackson, the state’s
capital city; several winding rivers, the fabled Mississippi among them;
historic river towns; and challenging, affordable golf courses.
Jackson makes a great hub for a golf vacation to the entire state. And
it’s the host city to the PGA Tour each Fall at the Southern Farm Bureau
Classic played at Annandale Country Club, a Jack Nicklaus-designed private
course. The Jackson area has many accessible courses: Caroline Golf
Club on Lake Caroline is a links-style course with few trees, but an
abundance of ponds and lakes. The Refuge course in nearby Flowood offers
sloping fairways and dense greens. Patrick Farms in Brandon, just a
few miles east of Jackson features an 18-hole course with wide fairways
and contoured greens in the midst of blooming dogwoods and towering
hardwoods.
McComb, south of Jackson off Interstate 55, is home to the highly acclaimed
Quail Hollow Golf Course at Percy Quin State Park. Quail Hollow received
four stars from Golf Digest’s Places to Play. The 18-hole layout was
designed by Arthur Hills and features tree-lined fairways leading to
undulating greens.
Mississippi GolfDue west of McComb is the river town of Natchez. With
its rich history and stately antebellum homes, many of which offer unique
luxury accommodations as bed and breakfast inns, Natchez provides an
unparalleled adventure. The Isle of Capri riverboat casino, docked permanently
in Natchez, is another exciting attraction. Its nearby hotel has partnered
with area golf courses to offer great value golf packages. Those courses
include Beau Pré Country Club, featuring rolling fairways and enormous
sand bunkers, and Duncan Park, the city’s home course. Both are challenging,
yet fair courses. All of the golf courses in the Capital/River Region
test your skills and offer you authentic Mississippi experiences.
