Hospitality Highway Itinerary
Day 1
Come enjoy the beautiful sights and wonderful experiences
along Highway 90 and the sun-drenched shores of the Mississippi
Gulf Coast. As you follow this highway into Mississippi from
New Orleans, be sure to notice the spectacular antebellum
homes that dot small coastal towns like Waveland, Bay St.
Louis and Pass Christian. Adventurers who wander just a few
blocks off the beaten path can take advantage of some great
bargains in the many antique shops tucked away in the back
streets of these quaint little towns.
All along Highway 90, the laid-back
Southern resort atmosphere combines with the fast-paced action
of the casinos to create a unique experience you won't find
anywhere else. Arrive in Biloxi this afternoon and discover
Beauvoir, the final home of Confederate President Jefferson
Davis. It was here, under the beautiful centuries-old oak
trees, that the Confed- erate leader spent his final years
writing his memoirs. Spend the afternoon touring the home,
museum and cemetery. Tonight, enjoy a wonderful dinner overlooking
the Mississippi Sound of the Gulf of Mexico. Exciting entertainment
awaits you at the many casinos that line the shores of the
Mississippi Gulf Coast and bay area.
Day 2
This morning the journey takes you just offshore for a unique
coastal experience at the Gulf Islands National Seashore.
Here, sparkling waters surround pristine white sand, creating
the unspoiled beauty of several barrier islands. Ship Island
features beaches named among the nation's top 10 and tours
of historic Fort Massachusetts.
You can reach the islands by commercial
ferry or by charter boat. However, you may choose to take
a shrimping excursion tour on an actual shrimp boat or sail
aboard an oyster schooner instead. Following your excursion
into the gulf, tour the J.L. Scott Marine Education Center
and the Seafood Industry Museum. This evening enjoy the exciting
nightlife of the Mississippi Gulf Coast area.
Day 3
Continue your journey west on Highway 90 to Ocean Springs.
This quiet gulfside community has long been home to many talented
artists and craftsmen. One such artist was Walter Anderson,
whose colorful paintings and unusual sculptures are displayed
at the Walter Anderson Museum and Shearwater Pottery. Enjoy
lunch at one of the local restaurants; then stop off at the
Old Spanish Fort in Pascagoula, said to be the oldest building
in the region.
