Rules of the Road

Speed Limits:
Unless otherwise posted the speed limit on Mississippi interstate highways is 70 mph, state highway maximum speed limit is 65 mph on four-lane highways and 55 mph on two-lane highways.

Motorcycle/Motor Scooter:
Crash helmets of the type and
design inspected and approved by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrator's are required on public roads or highways.

Mandatory Seat Belt Laws:
Driver and front-seat passengers must wear seat belts; children under four must be restrained in a suitable car seat.

Regulations on the Natchez Trace Parkway:
The speed limit on the Natchez Trace Parkway is 50 mph. Hauling and commercial trucking are not allowed along the historic thorough-fare. Charter/Tour buses are welcome, but must receive a special permit from the Natchez Trace Parkway headquarters by calling 1-800-305-7417.

Amtrak's Sunset Limited (Los Angeles-Miami) visits such Gulf Coast cities as Biloxi and Gulfport. The City of New Orleans (Chicago- New Orleans) stops in Jackson and several other western Mississippi cities.
