Wister Gardens
| | | Just North of Belzoni on Highway 7, visitors will be delighted by beautiful Wister Gardens. The 14 acres that is known as Wister Gardens were first cultivated and lovingly planted by Frances Chiles Henry and Wister Henry beginning about 1937. This is a horticultural wonderland featuring azaleas, roses, fruit trees, day lilies, crape myrtle, and wildlife. Rated best garden in the state by Mississippi Magazine voters, this is the only botanical garden located in the Mississippi Delta. An arboretum has been developed and tree identification labels are displayed. October brings a scarecrow contest and in December the garden is aglow with a winter wonderland of lights. In addition, garden workshops are held along with cooking classes. Wister Gardens also hosts weddings, reunions, showers & parties. All are welcome and the gardens are handicapped accessible. |

Dividing our country in half, it has for generations served as the nation’s backbone and as a source of commerce and culture. It is called the “Father of Waters” and travels 2,300 miles through rich, natural environments and provides one of the world’s most diverse ecosystems. An elaborate network of streams, oxbow lakes, forests, wetlands and sandbars trail this river and create an elaborate sanctuary to millions of deer, fish, osprey, songbirds, bald eagles, least terns and other wildlife. Its recreational resource contribution is enormous. Canoeing/Kayaking this river is becoming increasingly popular but is not safe without the services of an experienced guide.

Dockery Plantation
| | | C. 1895 Dockery Plantation was a 10,000 acre cotton plantation and sawmill on the Sunflower River between Ruleville and Cleveland, Mississippi. It was here that Delta blues music was born in the fields, boardinghouses and share croppers shacks. Blues musicians once residing at Dockery included Charlie Patton, Robert Johnson and Howlin' Wolf. The National Register of Historic Places welcomed the plantation in 2006. In its glory days, the plantation supported 2,000 workers paid in the plantation’s own coins. It became its own flourishing community with a railroad terminal, general store, post office, school, doctor and churches. Workers were treated fairly on the Dockery Plantation and were free to socialize and enjoy blues music in their free time so this place became a magnet for the nurturing of the blues. So significant to the Blues is this plantation that it has received a Blues Trail Marker making it a destination on the Mississippi Blues Trail. Tours are given by appointment through the Cleveland-Bolivar Country Chamber of Commerce/Tourism. This is a true deep south Delta experience!

Plymouth Bluff Center Birding & Wildlife Viewing
| | | The Plymouth Bluff area has a large population of deer and is home to wild turkeys, raccoons, beavers, rabbits, squirrels, armadillos, and occasional foxes and coyotes. Wood ducks are common, as well as Canadian geese that are on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. The area also contains a number of interesting plant species and communities, including some very large specimens of post oak and osage orange. Nearly four miles of nature trails provide additional opportunities to observe nature and enjoy some impressive scenery along the river bluff. Some of the trails have an asphalt surface for use by physically challenged visitors. Guests of the Plymouth Bluff Center will find facilities purposely designed to blend into the natural environment, while providing accommodations for study, recreation, and appreciation of river and the land.
