Columbus

Christopher Columbus never visited this picturesque old southern town, named in his honor, and the nearby Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway is one of a handful of earth's manmade structures visible to astronauts from outer space. But, these are only two of the things that make Columbus, Mississippi very special. Historic Columbus offers a fine collection of antebellum homes for touring, and Friendship Cemetery is the site of an event held in 1866 that helped to mend a nation torn by civil war. Each year events like Tales From The Crypt offer stories at graveside, by candlelight, surrounding the pioneers and founding fathers of the town, and nearby Rosedale Manor plays host to battlefield reenactments. During this time, spring flowers are in full bloom and formal gardens are open to the public. Columbus, Mississippi, rich in scenic beauty and cultural activity provides the perfect getaway.
