Philadelphia

In 1841, President Martin Van Buren signed the town charter for Philadelphia and in 1905 the establishment of a railroad soon led to prosperity for the townspeople. Today, Philadelphia, Mississippi rests near the newly developed Pearl River Resort and is home to the Neshoba County Fair, or "Mississippi's Giant Houseparty" as it is often called. This historic fairground was founded in 1889 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This Philadelphia, Mississippi fair is one of the last remaining fairs of its kind and features live entertainment, dancing, folk singing, harness racing and political speakers.
