The main campus features several historic buildings such as Belle Lettres, Oakland Memorial Chapel, and Old President's Home, circa 1830. The Honorable Senator Hiram Revels, the first African-American to serve in the United States Senate, served as the University's first president, 1872 - 1873, and then again from 1876 - 1882.
