Located only seven miles northwest of Meridian, MS on Okatibbee Creek, Okatibbee Lake is an important feature in the development of the Pascagoula River Basin. Today, the beautiful waters of the lake and the surrounding forests provide excellent recreational opportunities including boating, fishing, camping, hunting, and enjoying the parks. Birding and wildlife viewing on excellent habitat for wetland flora; many species of wildlife, including great blue herons, red-bellied woodpeckers, northern cardinal, Eastern bluebirds, warblers, vireos, and other neotropical songbirds; 2.2-mile bluebird nest box trail; Southern bald eagles, ospreys; October until mid-Spring; rare white pelicans December through March.
