Shockaloe National Recreation Trail

This 23-mile trail winds through much of the northern half of the Bienville National Forest. The location is one of the best in the state to observe the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker. Binoculars are a must to get the best view of this small bird. Base Camp 1 is open April through October with picnicking, drinking water, and sanitary facilities.  23-mile marked trails in national forest, variety of scenic terrain, native plant life, crosses several local roads, offers option of several trails of varying lengths, 1.5 to 23 miles, open year-round, also primitive camping, nature trails, picnic areas
