The Delta's Lebanese and Italian heritage merge with Delta cuisine at Chamoun’s Resthaven and patrons can sample authentic kibbie, cabbage rolls and gyros alongside homemade ravioli and lasagna and Southern fried catfish. The restaurant is just a few blocks from Ground Zero and the Delta Blues Museum. The neon sign outside beckons diners touting “American*Italian*Lebanese: Open for Breakfast 6AM.” Owner Chavik Chamoun and his wife, Louise immigrated to Clarksdale in 1954, joining family already in the area. After peddling women’s clothes for several years, they opened a grocery store and then eventually took over a cousin’s restaurant, which was Chamoun’s. Louise’s coveted kibbie became a fixture on the menu as well as local favorites like fried catfish and other menu options of prime rib and shish kabob. Just like the sign says, they open each morning to serve a hearty Southern breakfast of country ham, eggs and biscuits for starters. Be sure to try the kibbe omelet - it's to die for! As always, save room for dessert. The coconut and the chocolate cream pies with “mile-high” meringue have gotten rave reviews for over 27 years!
