Bill's Greek Tavern was Eudora Welty’s favorite restaurant and she went there every year for her birthday. Owner Bill Matheos, liked to give Ms. Welty birthday parties. For one of them, he hired a belly dancer. "She was a pretty belly dancer," Ms. Welty said. "On her navel it said 'Eudora Welty I Love You.' " The Tavern exemplifies the Greek heritage and culinary influence that began in Jackson in the early 20th century. Expect a booming "God Bless America" welcome from Bill, who is quite the character. He serves the freshest Gulf seafood with his own special Greek seasoning. Dinners include such Mississippi specialties as broiled redfish, shrimp, oysters, lump crabmeat, and more goodies from the Gulf. BYOB.
