The Marion County - City of Columbia Museum and Archives is located across from City Hall, on the west end of 2nd Street, in the circa 1907 Gulf & Ship Island passenger depot. The museum currently holds a large collection of Native American artifacts, a Civil War room, as well as displays of early Columbia and local military history. The museum is presented by the Marion County Historical Society and features a variety of artifacts from Marion County’s past. The museum includes many antique items and historic displays of the families and characters that built Columbia and Marion County. There are interesting exhibits, archives of important records, geneaology resources, an extensive Civil War library, and much more.
