Mississippi Attracts Texans in Volume
- Tourism Blitz to target Dallas and Houston
Jackson, Mississippi, April 24, 2002
- The Mississippi Development Authority, Division of Tourism
is capitalizing on the state's proven ability to attract Texas
visitors with the launch of a 3-day Mississippi Tourism Sales
Blitz beginning April 30 in Houston and rounding up in Dallas
on May 2. Special activities are planned to target area travel
trade professionals who include corporate meeting planners,
travel agents and tour operators.
"Mississippi has seen a significant
increase in Texas visitors over the past several years."
said Darienne Wilson, Director of Tourism, Mississippi Development
Authority. "We want to make certain the travel industry
is aware of the abundant opportunities available in Mississippi."
During the Blitz approximately 40 tourism
representatives will be visiting travel professionals to educate
them about the Mississippi product and to deliver a "Taste
of Mississippi" basket filled with Mississippi specialty
food items.
"Mississippi is a quintessential
spot for historians, art enthusiasts and culture lovers, an
adventure destination for those who love the great outdoors,
an oasis of indulgence for those who enjoy the leisure of
destination resorts and spas, and a sanctuary for the avid
golfer," said Wilson. "From the Delta to the Gulf
Coast, Mississippi offers a little taste of adventure for
everyone. We want our visitors to feel a sense of having found
the Mississippi experience... one that Feels Like Coming Home."
