Mississippi's Fairview Inn selected as
Top Inn in North America & Caribbean

JACKSON, Miss. - Fairview Inn has been named as the most outstanding inn in North America and the Caribbean based upon the comments of their guests and inspectors for a revered international hotel guide.

Conde Nast Johansens, the internationally acclaimed publisher of hotel guides, named the Jackson bed and breakfast as the winner of its 2003 North America & Caribbean Most Outstanding Inn Award at a gala dinner last week in London.

"We are truly honored to receive this recognition for not only what it means for us, but the credibility it brings to tourism in Jackson and Mississippi," said Bill and Carol Simmons, Fairview's owners. "It is our hope that others in the market see an impact from whatever benefits we realize."

No other Mississippi hotel or inn has ever received the recognition.

Fairview Inn was nominated for the North America & Caribbean Most Outstanding Inn Award based on input from the Conde Nast Johansens North American team of inspectors and comments received from the users of its guides.

For many years, "the Simmons family has provided a luxurious setting and excellent gourmet dining in this Jackson, Mississippi landmark," said Lesley O'Malley-Keyes, Conde Nast Johansens North American publisher, in presenting the award. "We are pleased to present it with our 2003 North America & Caribbean Most Outstanding Inn Award."

Family members Todd McClellan, executive chef, and Melissa McClellan, wedding reception coordinator, attended the dinner and accepted the award on behalf of Fairview Inn.

"The Fairview Inn and its exceptional service continue to bring outstanding recognition to Mississippi," said Darienne Wilson, director of tourism for the Mississippi Development Authority. "The distinction by Conde Nast Johansens is further testament to Fairview's prominence in the industry and the state's excellent product. We are delighted for the Simmons family who has always been a wonderful tourism partner in our efforts to promote Mississippi."

The award comes the year following of the completion of a major addition to Fairview Inn, which more than doubled its overnight guest accommodations. In 2001, owners completed the construction and furnishing of 10 individually decorated luxury suites. With names like Strawberry, Leopard Rose and Castle Garden, the suites each have their own themes. A custom-built Roman bed is the centerpiece of the Roman Suite. While the Spanish Suite features accommodations fit for royalty, with an iron bed capped by a crown.

In 2000, American Historic Inns, Inc., publisher of more than 2.4 million bed and breakfast guidebooks, named Fairview one of the "Top 10 Most Romantic Inns" in the U.S.

"Visitors enter this magnificent bed and breakfast and are amazed by the beauty of it all," Wanda Wilson, executive director of the Jackson Convention and Visitors Bureau. "Coupled with exceptional attention to customer service it is no surprise that the Fairview Inn has received this outstanding award. Mr. and Mrs. Simmons are to be commended for the many years of hard work that has been invested."

The nominees for the award were selected from the more than one hundred hotels and inns appearing in the 2002 edition of the Conde Nast Johansens Recommended Hotels, Inns & Resorts North America, Bermuda, Caribbean, Mexico, Pacific, which includes exquisite properties from throughout the United States, Bermuda, the Caribbean, Mexico and the Pacific.

Fairview Inn will be featured in the front of the 2004 guide as the premiere bed and breakfast in North America, according to Stuart Johnson, Conde Nast Johansens United Kingdom publisher.

Fairview Inn is a grand Colonial Revival home on the National Register of Historic Places and is located in the Belhaven Historic District of Jackson. Established as a bed and breakfast in 1993, Fairview is also host to wedding receptions, corporate and social banquets throughout the year.

The Conde Nast Johansens Recommended Hotel Guides are the most comprehensive illustrated reference to independently owned, annually inspected hotels throughout North America, Great Britain and Europe. Each hotel Recommendation is selected for its individual charm, character and superior standards. Conde Nast Johansens then inspects each Recommendation annually to ensure that it maintains those high standards.

Conde Nast Johansens is owned by Conde Nast Publications, a wholly owned subsidiary of Advance Publications and Conde Nast International, which publishes 72 magazines around the world, including Vogue, Conde Nast Traveler, House & Garden, Architectural Digest, The New Yorker, GQ, Tatler, Vanity Fair, Brides, Glamour and Wired.
