GOVERNOR RONNIE MUSGROVE PROCLAIMS SPACE DAY
JACKSON, Miss., - In ceremonies held
recently, Governor Ronnie Musgrove signed a proclamation designating
Thursday, May 3, 2001 Space Day. The proclamation was issued
as the culminating event of the year-round Embrace Space educational
initiative, celebrating the extraordinary achievements, benefits
and opportunities in the exploration and use of space.
The Embrace Space initiative is supported
by more than 60 Partners representing a broad cross section
of educational, professional and trade associations, youth
groups, corporations and space related organizations.
"The space program is especially
meaningful to the citizens of Mississippi. Our state has been
a vital element of every mission flown in that a portion of
the construction or testing was conducted in Mississippi.
It is an honor to recognize Space Day because it encourages
people of all ages from around the globe to advance science,
math and technology education and to inspire future generations
to continue the vision of our space pioneers," added
Governor Musgrove.
