MISSISSIPPI DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES CERTIFIED MISSISSIPPI TRAVEL PROFESSIONAL ONLINE COURSE

In an effort to promote Mississippi and educate travel professionals about the state's many amenities, the Mississippi Development Authority's (MDA) Tourism Development Division has developed the Certified Mississippi Travel Professional online course.

"Tourism is economic development and creates jobs and opportunities for our citizens. The Mississippi Development Authority has developed the Certified Mississippi Travel Professional online course to foster that team spirit and build stronger relationships with travel professionals," said Robert J. Rohrlack, Jr., Executive Director of MDA.

This comprehensive travel professional education program is designed to educate and assist the travel professional in selling Mississippi's diverse travel products. The course consists of seven lessons, quizzes and a final exam. Upon successful completion of the course, each participant will become a Certified Mississippi Travel Professional and be eligible to win a "Mississippi Getaway" package. Certified Mississippi Travel Professionals will also receive a listing on MDA's Tourism Development website and an invitation for a familiarization trip to Mississippi. The course will be available in early 2003 at www.visitmississippi.org.

"We recognize the importance of the travel professional in spreading the good news about Mississippi," said Darienne Wilson, Director of MDA's Tourism Development Division. "As the role of travel agents has evolved over the last few years, travel agents are eager to learn about new destinations and innovative ways to promote those destinations. The Certified Mississippi Travel Professional online course meets those needs in a very proactive way."
