Mississippi experiences a noticeable change of seasons, but temps remain mild and pleasant year-round. Mississippi's temperate climate has an average annual temperature of 65 degrees.

The terrain varies from rolling hills in the northern region to sandy beaches along the Mississippi Gulf Coast with plenty of lush forested areas and lakes in between.

The northern region's landscape ranges from flatlands to hills. Average annual precipitation exceeds 50 inches and is well distributed throughout the year. March is the wettest month and October is the driest. Snowfall is less than two-and-one-half inches each year. The average temperature in January is 42 degrees, and the average temperature in July is 81 degrees.

Rolling hills make up the landscape of the central region. Short, mild winters and long, warm summers are the extremes of the temperate climate. Temperatures average 46 degrees in January and 82 degrees in July. The average annual precipitation is 53 inches, and snowfall averages less than two inches per year.

A portion of the southern region is located on the Gulf of Mexico and experiences tropical weather. The area has an average precipitation of 62 inches annually, and snowfall is rare. Winter temperatures average 52 degrees in January and the average temperature in July is 83 degrees.
