McComb
Nestled in the lush Piney Woods, McComb is an evergreen haven for nature lovers. Forests, trails, lakes and creeks surround the peaceful town, while beautiful blossoms and gardens line the city streets.
As a matter of fact, McComb's seasonal blooms just about make calendars obsolete.
Daylilies and crepe myrtles mingle with the scents of backyard barbecues throughout
the summer. Chrysanthemums and dogwood mark the
arrival of fall. Magnificent camellia bushes burst through the light frost
of winter. And the sensational colors of crocus, daffodils and azaleas signal
the return of spring.
Those brilliant azaleas also mean it's time for the annual Lighted Azalea Festival.
The nights of late March and early April sparkle with hundreds of illuminated
yards showcasing their marvelous azalea and dogwood blossoms. And a royal ceremony
in Edgewood Park presents the Azalea Queen and her court to the community.
If your idea of the great outdoors goes beyond lawns and gardens, Percy Quin
State Park has plenty of nature for the discerning outdoorsman. Its 1,700 acres
are filled with cabins, camping sites, hiking trails, a lake and an arboretum.
For those who'd
rather hit the links than the trails, Percy Quin features the
Quail Hollow Championship Golf Course. The doglegs, bunkers and
greens designed by Arthur Hills make for one of the finest courses
in the South.
Splashing
along the Bogue Chitto River is another great way to catch a breath
of fresh air. Take a morning canoe trip downstream to a shady picnic
spot, or just jump in for a cool dip on a warm day. The Bogue Chitto
Water Park also offers tubing, camping, a boat ramp and hiking trails.
Of course, there's nothing
like a Saturday afternoon at the track to really rev things up. The
Pike County Speedway hosts the Hav-A-Tampa series in addition to
outlaw and sprint car racing.
And just to let off a little more steam, the Iron Horse Festival celebrates McComb's
railroad roots every June. The two-day party by the tracks pays tribute to the
city's locomotive history with bands, crafts and regional cuisine.

Mississippi Living: Why did you decide to come back to Mississippi?The Walkers: After 30 years living outside the state, we realized the friendliest people we'd ever met were Mississippians. Everyone's generosity and good nature create a wonderful, easygoing lifestyle.
Mississippi Living: Have you missed thebig city?
The Walkers: We haven't had time to. Barbara is taking a couple of courses at the college and does a lot of work with the hospital – she even joined their medical team for Honduras missions. We're both very active in the church, and I'm serving as the local AARP Tax Aid Coordinator. It's almost too easy to become a part of the community here.

The Walkers: The amazing growth - the quality of life just keeps getting better and better all the time.
