2 New Certified Retirement Cities!

The Hometown Mississippi Retirement Program was created in 1994, and has as its mission to promote Mississippi as a retirement haven to pre-retirees and retirees throughout America. The program originally certified 20 cities.

To qualify as a Certified Retirement City, each town must pass through a three-month intensive screening process conducted by Hometown Mississippi Retirement, the state's official retiree attraction program. We evaluate each city on the criteria important to retirees - affordable cost of living, low taxes, low crime rate, quality medical care, recreation, educational and cultural opportunities, and most importantly - a warm, welcoming community.

Laurel and Brandon, Mississippi have been honored with the distinction of being selected as the newest recipients of the Mississippi Development Authority’s Hometown Retirement Certification, the first additions since the program’s inception.  We are delighted to present them to you.

Brandon:  If you like to laze around, Brandon is not for you. If you like to enjoy everything life has to offer, then you will want to check out this exciting town.  The state’s capital city is a stone’s throw away.  Challenging golf courses and the fantastic Barnett Reservoir are nearby.  Get up and go!

Laurel:  We guarantee it – Laurel is one of the most beautiful towns you’ve seen.  The Historic District is the state’s largest, finest, and most intact ensemble of early 20th century architectural styles.  Add the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art, outdoor recreation opportunities, and year-round events, and you’ll see what we mean.
