Canton

The city of Canton, Mississippi was incorporated in 1836, and its famous Madison County Courthouse was built in 1855. Today, this beautiful old courthouse is at the heart of one of the South's largest events held each May and October - the Canton Flea Market. Thousands of visitors converge on this historic city to shop among hundreds of vendors offering incredible arts and crafts. Other Canton, Mississippi events include the month long Victorian Christmas Festival with life-size moving figures and thousands of white lights; the Madison County Championship Hot Air Balloon Race; and the Canton Gospel Fest Homecoming with award-winning musical groups in Gospel, Blues and Jazz. Known as the "Movie Capital of the South", Canton, Mississippi also features the Movie Museums at Wohner's Corner, which include the actual movie sets for John Grisham's "A Time to Kill," and Willie Morris' "My Dog Skip."
