Vicksburg
This old river city is most famous for
its Civil War history and was considered, by Abraham Lincoln,
to be the "key" to winning the war. General U. S.
Grant bombarded Vicksburg, Mississippi for 47 days and nights,
holding its entire population, under siege. With the city's
surrender on July 4th 1863, the war began to grind slowly
to an end. History enthusiasts will enjoy touring the historic
homes during Vicksburg, Mississippi's spring and fall pilgrimages,
and a leisurely drive through the 1,800-acre Vicksburg National
Military Park and Cemetery. Here, monolithic monuments of
marble and granite honor the armies of both sides and strategy
markers and earthworks indicate the lines of defense and opposition.
Down by the river several modern casinos offer world-class
entertainment and non-stop gaming action. Below you'll find
