Pike CountyThe Opening Of Mississippi’s First Welcome Station

The Pike County Welcome Center was the first welcome station to open in Mississippi. No one could hope that the welcome stations would become as great as they have. Pike County was the first to open February 3, 1975. Now the great state of Mississippi has a total of 12 Welcome stations around Mississippi. Lauderdale County was to be the first but complications was the result of their center being second to open their doors to the waiting public. We have centers north south east and west.

Our fine building was constructed during Governor William Waller’s administration. Architects for this project were Tuminello, Basset, and Pitts built by Sherman Construction Company of McComb, MS.

Pike CountyThe purpose of all our welcome centers are to welcome visitors with a welcoming smile a lot of information and to make sure each tourist knows all about the greatness of Mississippi. This will sometimes keep that group in Mississippi for another day. We provide information on restaurants, lodging and general information on our great state. We are proud to tell you that we hear everyday what great welcome centers Mississippi has and how clean our restrooms are. Our center provides the traveling public with 26 picnic tables and 4 covered pavilions. During the summer months we see lots of local people taking advantage of these picnic tables with family gatherings.
