Washington County

Washington CountyThe Washington County Welcome Center was a project created by the City of Greenville to participate in the 1984 World’s Fair in New Orleans. The project was to resemble a nineteenth century steamboat. The city then proposed to use the exhibit as a tourist information center after the World’s Fair was over. The steamboat replica was taken apart and brought back to Greenville to serve as a tourist center in 1985. The replica now sits in eighteen inches of water and is visited by tourists across the country. The steamboat replica is located at Highway 82 West and Reed Road. The staff welcomes tourist to visit daily.
